A teenager from Middlesborough has been sentenced for nine-and-a-half years for terrorism offences.

Mohammed Khalil Nadir was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court after being found guilty of possessing articles for a terrorist purpose and disseminating terrorist publications.

The 19-year-old has amassed terrorist material and shared a video of himself ‘triggering’ an imitation suicide vest.

He had researched the mock explosive vest worn during the Heaton Park Synagogue attack, before placing an order for a similar vest hours later.

When the vest was delivered, the teenager also added 500 steel ball bearings to his online shopping basket.

He also recorded a video of himself wearing the vest, modified with a fake wire and trigger, and overlaid the sound of an explosion, which was shared on Telegram.

Nadir was arrested in October 2025 and officers found the weighted vest in his wardrobe, along with handwritten texts promoting martyrdom operations, and a range of terrorist material on his mobile devices, including Daesh propaganda videos, and texts calling for the killing of ‘disbelievers’.
