Man arrested on suspicion of supporting proscribed organisation

A man from Wigston, Leicestershire has been arrested on suspicion of expressing support for a proscribed organisation (Daesh), contrary to section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The 27-year-old was arrested by officer from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) on Monday.

A residential property in Wigston is being searched.

The operation was led by CTPSE, was supported by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands and Leicestershire Police.

Neighbourhood Policing Commander for Wigston, Inspector Chris Day, from Leicestershire Police, said: "I appreciate arrests of this nature may cause some people in the community to feel concerned, however this arrest today took place as part of a pre-planned operation. We are working to support our colleagues in Counter Terrorism Policing as their investigation continues.

"People in the local area may notice an increased police presence while search activity takes place. If anyone has any concerns, or information they think may be relevant, please speak to an officer."
