Trial set for 8 suspects in Nice Bastille Day attack

The trial of eight people in connection to the Bastille Day attack in Nice in 2016 is set to begin next week.

The trial is to take place six years after a lorry was driven into a crowd, killing 86 people and injuring 450. The lorry was driven into pedestrians on the Promenade des Anglais on France's Bastille Day holiday.

The driver Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was shot dead at the scene by police.

Those set to go on trial next week are accused of having links with the attacker or being implicated in arms trafficking which allowed the attacker to obtain a pistol used in the attack.

The trial will take place in the same courtroom at the Court of Appeal in Paris, where the November 13 Paris attack trial took place earlier this year. It will also be broadcast in the Palais Acropolis convention centre in Nice for civil plaintiffs, journalists and the public.

The trial is expected to feature at least 865 civil plaintiffs and is expected to last at least two months.
