US forces have killed a senior terrorist leader in Syria. Abu Hamzah al Yemeni was a leader of Hurras al-Din, an al-Qaida affiliated terrorist group.

According to military officials, he was killed by US forces in an airstrike in Syria on Monday. He was riding a motorcycle on the eastern edge of Syria's rebel-held Idlib province at the time of the strike.

United States Central Command said that violent groups like Hurras al-Din pose an ongoing threat to the U.S. and its allies. In a statement, they said "The removal of this senior leader will disrupt Al Qaeda's ability to carry out attacks against U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians around the world."

According to the US military, no civilians were injured in the attack.

This strike comes 10 days after a top ISIS leader was captured in northwestern Syria by U.S. forces.
