Counter-terrorism arrest made over North Greenwich Tube device

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a suspicious device was identified at North Greenwich Tube station The device was discovered on an eastbound Jubilee Line train at the station and appeared to contain wires and ‘possibly a clock’. Its presence was quickly alerted to authorities. After the south-east station was evacuated, members of the Met’s bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion on the device. The suspect has been arrested and taken to a London police station, where he is currently in custody. Police have said they are stepping up patrols across London's transport network following Thursday's discovery of the item. Following the event, London Mayor Sadiq Khan also praised the professionalism of the police and Transport for London (TfL) staff. Khan also urged all Londoners to ‘check with TfL before they travel, and to remain calm and vigilant at all times.’
