Neo-Nazi threats against public figures investigated by police

Counter Terror Police are investigating threats sent to an activist and a TV presenter.

India Willoughby and Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu both received letter claiming to be from the "London cell" of National Action.

National Action was banned in 2016.

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, a British-Nigerian author, lawyer and political and women's rights activist posted the letter she received on Twitter. She said: "I have received “a serious threat from National Action London” notifying me of their “intention to kill” me & my family. They name my husband & home address. They don’t consider killing me ‘murder’ they call it an ‘execution’. This letter was through my front door".

The letter contained a lot of racist language and said: "Shola you are a constant troublemaker and liar who appears on television frequently. You make a shabby living from criticising and race grifting against ethnic white europeans and our culture. We have placed you on our kill list and intend to kill you, your children and your husband [name]. You have gone too far and it is now time for you to pay the price."

Speaking to the BBC, Dr Mos-Shogbamimu said: "The letter was sent to me to intimidate and silence me.

"This is not the first time I have received racial abuse or threats, I get inundated with rape threats and racial abuse on social media."

"I am being targeted because I am a black anti-racist activist. I am outspoken and I do not shy away from having those challenging conversations that shape our society today.

"My case is not an isolated one, in fact we find many black voices in politics and activism that are constantly being targeted."

Transgender TV presenter India Willoughby also said she received a similar letter, which was hand-delivered to her accountant.

According to The Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command the messages contained "vile racist and transphobic language and threats". The investigation is being led by counter-terror specialists because of "the potential involvement of a proscribed group".

No arrests have been yet been made.
