Pakistan to reform National Counter Terrorism Authority

The Pakistani government has announced their decision to reform the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).

Interior minister Mohsin Naqvi decided this week to reorganise NACTA in a move to reduce terrorism levels in the country.

NACTA was established in 2008, as an Administrative unit within the Ministry of Interior, under a National Coordinator.

One of their main duties is to receive and collate data or information, to be presented to the Federal Government for making adequate and timely efforts to counter terrorism and extremism.

The minister said that the authority would be given the role of "a frontline organisation to fight war against terrorism."

In 2023, Pakistan saw in increase of almost 500 incidents compared to the year before as well as an increase of 1173 injuries from terrorist activity according to the Global Terrorism Index.
