US raid targets IS leader in Syria

According to the US military, a helicopter raid in northern Syria has killed Abd-al-Hadi Mahmud al-Haji Ali, a senior IS leader in Syria.

US Central Command said he was “responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe.”

It has been reported that two other armed individuals were also killed and no civilians or US troops were hurt.

General Michael "Erik" Kurilla, CENTCOM commander said: "Though degraded, ISIS remains able to conduct operations within the region with a desire to strike beyond the Middle East.

"We will continue the relentless campaign against ISIS."

"This operation reaffirms CENTCOM's steadfast commitment to the region and the enduring defeat of ISIS," said Joe Buccino, a CENTCOM spokesman. "We will provide additional details soon."
