Teen charged with terrorism offences

A teenager in the West Midlands have been charged with terrorism offences, as part of an ongoing investigation by counter-terrorism officers.

Shaan Farooq was charged on 26 January with one count of possessing terrorism material and three counts of distributing terrorism material.

The 18-year-old from Birmingham was arrested alongside another teenager, Amir El-Harith, aged 19 and from Smethwick, in August on suspicion of terrorism offences.

El-Harith was charged last August and is awaiting trial in March on three counts of distributing terrorist publications, three offences of encouraging terrorism and one offence of possession of information likely to be useful to someone committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
