Glasgow airport evacuated

Glasgow airport was evacuated this morning following concern over an item in a passenger's bag.

Police were sent to the scene at around 6am and the central search area and domestic arrivals area were shut, with passengers told to expect delays.

Passengers were evacuated to the carpark and given emergency blankets.

A Glasgow airport spokesperson said: "We are liaising with Police Scotland and will provide an update as soon as we can."

A Royal Navy bomb disposal unit was sent to the airport and a bomb disposal robot was also seen.

Police Scotland said: "The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) is in attendance and a cordon is now in place.

"Staff and members of the public have been moved from the check-in area to the multi-storey car park. Police and emergency services remain at the scene."

Bomb disposal teams later confirmed that the suspicious luggage was "innocent".
