Steatite has a proven heritage designing and manufacturing portable power for the most demanding applications. Working with world class battery cell manufacturers, designing and building chargeable and non–rechargeable lithium battery packs. Steatite provides portable power solutions to meet military standards for operation in environments up to 200°C performing reliably in the harshest shock and vibration conditions with sophisticated electronic equipment.
In applications which require power to be rapidly deployed Steatite recommend the APU range housed in rugged waterproof cases. Manufactured in house, the portable lithium power pack, comes complete with safety electronics, accurate fuel gauge and intelligent charging systems for professional use. The Steatite Auxiliary power Unit is designed for the professional user in critical applications where reliability and performance matter. Using rechargeable lithium batteries the APU provides excellent energy density. The pack is used widely by CROPS personnel, Technical Support Units, rapid response units and other authorities who require portable power for electronic equipment. All units incorporate safety electronics and battery protection and real state of charge LED indication. For other applications Steatite recommends their standard building blocks which provide up to 160Ah capacity ~ these batteries and safety electronics can be designed into existing enclosures or new cases to suit the application.
In portable operations the use of large rechargeable lithium battery packs offers significant advantages over convention lead acid systems. A 100Ah lithium battery can weigh half of a lead acid battery pack! With less weight and extended run time the initial benefits are easy to see. Coupled with extraordinary cycle life the lithium rechargeable pack offers real long term benefits to the user. Whether being used for communications, surveillance or powering CCTV equipment or other remote devices the Steatite APU is regarded by many as the best portable power available.
Steatite offers a range of rugged mobile computing solutions designed for use in diverse yet harsh environments, particularly outdoors, or on the move. They are designed to withstand hazards such as shock and vibration, water, dust, and extremes of temperature. Available machines can be broadly separated into two groups; semi-rugged PCs are typically rated to MIL-STD810F and feature a metal-alloy enclosure and limited protection against dust or water ingress. Fully rugged PCs, on the other hand, have extra features such as sealed ports allowing certification to the international protection standard IP54, or higher.
Cchoosing the right tool for the job is not as straight forward as it would appear. Reliability is a major factor, under the toughest of environments only certain products can meet the challenge. Minimal downtime is essential in mission-critical applications and only the highest quality products can be used for such a task. Steatite call upon their knowledge and many years experience to offer what is considered to be the most suitable products for Military/Defence applications.
