Walsall group prosecuted for terror plans

A group of friends from Walsall have been jailed, after planing to bring up their children under so-called Islamic State in Syria. Police say 12 people from Walsall went to Syria or attempted to do so in 2014. In particular, a mother of three, Lorna Moore has been jailed for two and a half years after failing to tell authorities that her husband planned to join the militant group. Moore’s husband Sajid Aslam was found to be part of a large network that answered ISIL’s calls for volunteers in 2014. Two of the 12 men who made it to Syria have since been identified as deceased, while the location of the others is unclear. The investigation has been described as one of most complex and challenging inquiries by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit since the Islamic State group called for volunteers to help populate its self-declared frontiers.
