Anjem Choudary convicted of encouraging IS support

Radical cleric Anjem Choudary has been found guilty of inviting others to support the so-called Islamic State group. Choudary, who is known to be one of the most controversial radical clerics in the UK, was convicted along with his close confidant, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman. Choudhry is expected to face up to 10 years in jail, following the trail at the Old Bailey. The news comes as counter-terrorism chiefs have spent almost two decades attempting to bring Choudary to trial for the part he played in radicalising young men and women. The trial heard how the men decided in the summer of 2014 that IS demanded the obedience and support of Muslims, and had invited others to support the group through speeches, and had announced their own oath of allegiance to its leader.
